John
R. Campbell, M.D. was born in Tacoma, Washington. He
was raised in Seattle.
A graduate of
Stanford University, he attended medical school at the University of Washington
in Seattle. His medical internship and specialty training in ophthalmology were
done at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. He joined Dr. Denicke
and McBain in San Rafael in 1979. He is Board Certified in Ophthalmology.
He has lectured and teaches phacoemulsification cataract surgery to ophthalmology
residents at California Pacific Medical Center and to other practicing surgeons.
Dr. Campbell
has been selected as a member of the “Best Doctors in America” in 2003, 2004 and
again in 2005.

Dr. Campbell is
married, has three grown children and three step children. He is an aficionado
of Argentine Tango, which he studies and enjoys in his off hours. Although they
are no longer teaching,
he and his
wife work out frequently at Nautilus of Marin and regularly practice Argentine Tango together.
Debbie is a
choreographer and dancer. Dr. Campbell's other avocations include
photography, videography and video editing.

John C. Shin, M.D.
was raised in Chicago. He received his undergraduate degree from
Stanford University. He graduated from Washington University School of Medicine
in St. Louis and was an intern at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
Dr. Shin served his Residency at California Pacific Medical Center in San
Francisco. He completed fellowship training in corneal and external disease and refractive
surgery at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He is certified by the American
Board of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Shin joined
MarinEyes in 1998.
He balances his medical credentials with
experience as a professional lead guitarist and music appreciator as well as
interests in computers, fishing , hiking, cooking, gymnastics and tennis.

Christian K. Kim, M.D.
grew up in Southern California. He studied Microbiology at UCLA,
graduating with Honors in 1988. Proceeding then to medical school at Saint Louis
University, he received his M.D. degree in 1992. Following his residency in
Ophthalmology at Medical College of Virginia, he took a research and clinical
fellowship at the Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital in New Orleans. His mentor
during this program was Marguerite McDonald, who trained him in refractive
surgery (Dr. McDonald was the first surgeon in the world to perform laser
corrective surgery on a sighted human eye). Dr. Kim practiced previously for 10
years in Sonoma County, where he performed over 6,000 laser correction surgeries
along with a schedule of cataract and corneal procedures. Dr. Kim is on the
clinical faculty at California Pacific Medical Center. His focus in practice is
on corneal, refractive and anterior segment surgery (including cataract). Dr.
Kim is certified by VISX and LADARVISION, and like the other M.D.'s at
MarinEyes, he is Board Certified by the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Kim joined MarinEyes in 2008. He is a resident
of San Francisco. |

Dr.
Vermillion has retired! We miss him greatly, but the world has gained a
full-time artist!!
Steven J. Vermillion, M.D.
was born and raised in Iowa. He went to college at the University
of Iowa. He received honors in his undergraduate studies and medical training.
His internship was at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco.
Following this he returned to the University of Iowa for his specialty training
in ophthalmology. Dr. Vermillion is Board Certified in Ophthalmology.
Dr.
Vermillion joined Drs. Campbell and Denicke in 1982.
Dr.
Vermillion was selected as a member by The Best Doctors in America in 1996-1997. In
2002, 2003 and 2004 he was again chosen as one of the best doctors in major
metropolitan areas by the Top Doctors in America Organization.
Dr.
Vermillion’s undergraduate work was in fine art; he has illustrated medical
books. He continues to enjoy sculpting and playing musical instruments. Dr.
Vermillion created the bas relief sculptures
in our lobby; the background image of the cover page of our website is his work.
Dr. Vermillion lives in Muir Woods.
