To schedule an
appointment with one of our Eye MD Surgeons (Dr. Campbell, Dr. Shin, or Dr.
Stewart) or one of our Optometry doctors (Dr. Wong, Dr. Valles, Dr.
Wang or Dr. Wanon), call
415-454-5565. Phone hours are 8:30am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday,
with the exception of holidays. In general, "routine" exams will be scheduled
with our optometrists while Dr. Campbell and Dr. Shin primarily practice disease
care and surgery.
It is important to have
regularly scheduled eye exams. We recommend the following schedule to maintain
optimal eye health. We are committed to excellence in eye care and we welcome
the opportunity to serve you.
How often do you need to have your eyes checked?
If you are having a problem, get them checked now!
Adults under age 40, every 5 years, more
often if there are changes in your vision.
Healthy adults (age 40 to 65)
without vision problems: Every 2-3 years, depending on whether you are
experiencing changes.
Over age 65: Every two years,
unless there are problems.
If you wear contact lenses or
have diabetes: Annual exam.
If you have eye disease or a family history
of eye disease, check with one of our doctors for advice.
How long will my appointment take?
We value your time. We also are striving to
do very exacting examinations and give very important advice to our patients. It
is often difficult to truly know how long a given visit will take, so we suggest
you help us run on time by arriving early and by having any forms that may have
been sent to you already filled out before you arrive. Here are some guidelines to help
everybody stay relaxed:
Complete exam: 1 hour 30 minutes inclusive of
the optical consultation.
Dilated Exam (no refraction): 1 hour.
Focused problem undilated: 15-45 minutes.
Visual Field or other diagnostic testing
only, no doctor visit: 30-45 minutes.
Visual field and doctor visit: 1 hour (up to
an hour and a half if dilation is planned).
